Use and Importance of Poultry By-Product Meal in Animal Nutrition
Poultry by-product meal is the rendered product from poultry wastes such as head, feet,
intestines, blood and inedible tissues obtained in slaughterhouses and also meat processing
units. Depending upon the availability, hatchery wastes could be included. Property of the raw
materials, processing technology (temperature, pressure etc), addition of preservatives, storage
time and storage conditions affect its feeding value. Poultry by-product meal, which is produced
according to the standard, have good feeding value for poultry and ruminant diets as source of
protein and energy, it also a high by-pass protein value for ruminants. Poultry by-product meal,
which is produced according to the standard with a certain hygiene level, contributes to
economy and environment by utilization of slaughterhouse offal, prevention of environmental
pollution and also cost reduction in feed formulation for the compound feed industry.
